Located on a plateau at the edge of the Cumberland Gap, Lexington-Fayette County is the merged urban county government at the center of an eight-county alliance that represents the Bluegrass Region. The Bluegrass Region is home to more than 600,000 residents and serves as the financial, educational, retail, healthcare, service and cultural center of Central and Eastern Kentucky. Commerce Lexington Inc.'s economic development team works collaboratively with its partners - the University of Kentucky, the Small Business Development Center and the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government - to assist companies in creating jobs and investment in our community, which creates a higher quality of life for our citizens. We do this by supporting and promoting entrepreneurial start-ups, business expansion and retention, advocacy; workforce development; community, minority, and small business development; and the cultivation of local and regional leadership.

University of Kentucky Advanced Science & Technology Commercialization Center

To help foster innovation, the University of Kentucky opened the Advanced Science & Technology Commercialization Center, better known as ASTeCC, in 1994. ASTeCC is UK's premier business incubator and also provides a central location for the programs and services offered by the Office for Commercialization & Economic Development, including leasing space in ASTeCC, intellectual property protection, commercialization and licensing, university-industry partnerships, and the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship. Thirty-five new companies have "graduated" from ASTeCC.

Awesome Inc. exist to create and grow high tech startups. We do this by hosting community events, leading technology education courses and offering a shared workspace environment.

Lexington Innovation and Commercialization Center

The Lexington Innovation and Commercialization Center (ICC) is part of a statewide Innovation Network focused on the development of innovation-driven, technology based, companies in Kentucky. The Kentucky Innovation Network was established in 2001 and consists of twelve offices, spread geographically around the state. These Innovation Network Offices possess the depth and breadth of knowledge needed to help technology companies through preliminary business Assessment, Business development and ultimately Capitalization.

The Advanced Science & Technology Commercialization Center, better known as ASTeCC, is UK's premier business incubator housing new and emerging technology-based companies. Startup companies in ASTeCC have licensed UK intellectual property or have a connection to UK faculty or staff. ASTeCC is also home to faculty labs for research with commercialization potential, and shared-use facilities for the entire campus, including the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering, the Electron Microscopy Center and the Mass Spectrometry Facility.
